We had some early lake fog to contend with but that quickly burned off. Later in the day, when the broadwings were streaming through, a few high clouds made things a little easier for us. The wind was light and mostly out of the west. Raptor Observations: Another exceptional day of Broad-winged Hawk movement. In the late afternoon, several gargantuan streams crossed directly overhead. As for other birds, Sharp-shinned Hawks and Bald Eagles were again moving in good numbers. Also, a low, close Merlin was a nice way to end the day. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jay (60+), Red-winged Blackbird (40+), Chimney Swift (55+), Monarch (500+) Predictions: Partly cloudy with moderate northeast wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
