In conjunction with the Natural Lands folks at Royal Botanical Gardens, Burlington, I am planning a 12-hour stationary bird count (Long Watch) in RBG’s Hendrie Valley on Saturday October 4th.
A bit like the Grimsby Hawk Watch, the idea is to have a team of birders spend a full twelve hours (in shifts) in one location, keeping a record of all birds seen and heard. We intend to make this a long-term, semi-annual event, (October & May) to gather valuable information on avian population levels and trends. I’m asking for your help. We need to schedule several skilled birders for approximately three-hour shifts. And, just like the Hawk Watch, casual, stop-by birders will be welcome to contribute at any time during the day. Please volunteer as a watcher by reply to this or contacting me at [email protected] or 905 681 2738.
