Observation start time: 08:00:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 8 hours
Official Counter: Bob Pettit
Observers: Bob Hall-Brooks, Jim McCoy, John Craft, Scott Fauteux,
Tiffanie Rajki
Visitors:
There were many visitors today. Half were just visiting to view the marsh
and the remainder had an interest in birds. Folks were from Ohio, Illinois,
Ann Arbor, MI, Windsor and Wellesley, ON. There were campers from the park
too.
Weather:
A great day for sunbathing. Fog north of site had the observer concerned
the tower would be shrouded in clouds. But not the case! Sunshine with
little cloud cover; in fact blue sky overhead and for most of the day. A
few clouds late with cumulus and cirrus helping with good contrast But the
last hour was a bust with the most clouds present. Temp high 28C Winds
started N swinging southward and remaining mostly with S and E component. A
good share of the local wind was due to onshore breeze. The wind turbines
remained facing ENE all afternoon.
Raptor Observations:
Nine species (total 290) with SS=86 majority (TV are not raptors = 143)
RT=16 and AK=13 almost tied for second. I suspect if the wind had been more
northerly the count would have been a third higher.
Non-raptor Observations:
Bonaparteâs Gulls=14 (first of year?), Am Robin=1, C. Waxwing=21n.
Cardinal=2, Am. Goldfinch=311, Blue Jay=17,810, Monarch Butterfly=75.
Predictions:
Partly Cloudy. High: 73° F. / 23° C. Wind less than 5km/hr Similar
direction as today. North moving clockwise to SE throughout the day.
