Not much to report today with regards to raptors (23 total) but thanks to all
who came out. There were 14 Monarch Butterflies though, and we've been seeing
lots like that every day for the past few weeks which hopefully shows that in
spite of all the insecticide we're throwing at them still they can have a good
season. I hope it extends everywhere .
My issue today is the woeful condition of High Park. This weekend is the
weekend for colour in the leaves. There's even a festival on Sunday. So what
are they doing? They've ripped up the Grenadier Restaurant parking lot so that
the thousands of folks who throng to the park to take pictures this weekend
will have limited car parking. Come on, Toronto, these people like to bring
Grandma and Grandpa and all the kids. They can't manage on the subway. And
Parkside drive is still under repair so they'll have a tough time getting
through there. Is all this really in preparation for the Pan Am Games NEXT
YEAR? If the rest of the world sees the deplorable condition of our streets
will we be ashamed? Not if they go no futher than High Park. Otherwise well,
yeah, you bet.
So if you come in a car be prepared to arrive real early or spend half the day
driving around. My advice? Come on the rocket instead. The High Park subway
station is also under repair but at least you can get through.
Saturday is supposed to be rainy so maybe not great for Hawk Watching but
Sunday is supposed to have clear weather with North West winds. Judging by the
poor showing we've had all week Sunday could be stupendous. Shine up the bins
for Turkey Vultures, Red Tails and Shoulders, maybe some Goshawks and
Peregrines and who knows? A Golden Eagle that many folks will be seeing for the
first time? How about a black vulture that I'LL be seeing for the first time.
Happy snapping and Hawking too.
