Thanks to all of the visitors and observers up on the tower today for helping spot those "Sneaky Sharpies", "Blue-sky Buteos", and "Really-far-off Raptors"! Weather: It was a beautiful, calm day on the tower. There was little to no cloud cover and winds that started from the N eventually swivelled to the W and SSW by the end of the day. Raptor Observations: The morning started off really well but with the wind switch and the lack of clouds, birds started flying exceptionally high (out of the range of vision) and also to the north of us. We ended up with 12 species and 1509 Turkey Vultures. 2 Golden Eagles and 2 light-morph Rough-legged Hawks really rounded out the day well. Non-raptor Observations: Red-winged Blackbirds and American Crows made up most of the passerine numbers flying today. It was nice to see both Red-breasted and White-breasted Nuthatches in a tree close to the tower. Ducks were also on the move today with 70 Scaups, among others, arriving in the marsh. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20318468 Predictions: Winds up to 15km/h from the SW and W with partial cloud cover. Some of the birds may be pushed past us to the north side of the marsh. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
