I just had a call from Erwin Meissner who had a solid report of a Great Gray
Owl observed last week near Massey about 100 km west of Sudbury. Erwin
thought that this might be an early indication of a movement this fall and
winter. Small mammal populations may be low in northeastern Ontario based on
reports I had last summer.

Erwin, formerly of Massey, is now living in Little Current on Manitoulin
Island. He reports good numbers of American Golden-Plovers in wet fields on
the island. He welcomes visiting birders and his phone number is
705-368-0161.
