Weather: Clouds came and went through the day and winds switched between the W, SW, SSW and S, though it was generally very calm (less than 5km/h). Raptor Observations: Birds were getting pushed far to the north side of the marsh, identifiable mostly through a scope. Between 11 and 12 was a great hour, with more than half the buteos for the day along with two immature Golden Eagles. It was interesting that 75% of the Red-tailed Hawks were adults. It was a nice day overall, with over 1500 Turkey Vultures and a good variety of species (11). Non-raptor Observations: Earlier in the day brought good flights of Red-winged Blackbirds and American Crows with a few Blue Jays still coming through. The Juncos were back again today, feeding around the tower, where the kinglets were also quite abundant. The marsh was providing for many birds today with 8 species of duck, among others. There were two especially stunning male Wood Ducks hanging around fairly close to the tower. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20327431 Predictions: Winds at 20km/h from the W and SW with some cloud cover and warming up to 18C. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
