Weather: Light rain and drizzle through the whole day with winds that began from the S and gradually made their way W and NW. Raptor Observations: 9 raptors today of 4 species with all of them flying at or below tower level. 2 Peregrines, 3 Red-tails, 3 Sharp-shins and 1 Northern Harrier. There was also an unidentified raptor (who didn't migrate) that was being mobbed in flight by over 100 starlings! There was so many of them that the raptor had no chance of defending itself so it ended up hiding out in the forest to escape. I guess now we know who's really chasing who! Non-raptor Observations: There was not much movement through the marsh by passerines, though there was a nice group of sparrows feeding at the base of the tower throughout the day, along with kinglets in the bushes. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20395276 Predictions: A cold day with high (40km/h) winds from the N. Hold on to your hats everyone! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
