Recent reports to November 6, 2014

SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER (juv) was seen briefly on the 1st at the Innis Point 
Bird Observatory (IPBO) on the Department of National Defense property along 
the Ottawa River north west of Shirleys Bay. It flew towards Shirleys Bay but 
was not subsequently found.

HARLEQUIN DUCK (juv f) found on the Rideau River on the 4th continues today. It 
is usually just north and occasionally south of the footbridge/bike path now 
under construction which will join the east end of Somerset St in Strathcona 
Park with the west end of Donald St at the Rideau Tennis Club.

Other highlights of the week were: an adult GOLDEN EAGLE over Wolf Grove Rd 
west of Almonte on the 30th, CANVASBACK (7) at Andrew Haydon Park west on the 
31st and single birds west of the Shirleys Bay causeway and at Andrew Haydon 
Park on the 1st and 2nd, BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER (f) along the Old Quarry Trail 
(trail 23) on the 31st and along the Trans Canada Trail between Bridlewood and 
Bell's Corners on the 4th. 

Late sightings for our area: COMMON YELLOWTHROAT (f) at the Embrum lagoon on 
the 31st, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER at the Britannia Conservation Area and 
KILLDEER (3) on the Eagleson Rd storm water ponds on the 1st, YELLOW-RUMPED 
WARBLER on Edina St on the 3rd and another along the Rideau River shore near 
the Rideau Tennis Club on the 6th, EASTERN BLUEBIRD (2) on Chemin Cregheur and 
a HERMIT THRUSH near Green's Creek at the Rockcliffe Pkwy on the 2nd.

BARROW'S GOLDENEYE (1m) continue to be found occasionally on Dow's Lake and on 
the Rideau River at Strathcona Park. 

A few shorebirds continue to be found at Embrun, there were small numbers of 
GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS,  PECTORAL and WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPER and DUNLIN.

Interesting sightings were: COMMON REDPOLL (1) heard in Larose Forest, BLACK 
SCOTER (250) near Rockcliffe Airport and EVENING GROSBEAK (8) along Limoges Rd 
on the 31st. About 60 BONAPARTE'S GULL at Embrun on the 2nd and on Trail Rd 
THAYER'S GULL (1 adult) on the 1st, GLAUCOUS GULL (2nd year) on the 2nd and an 
ICELAND GULL on the 4th. A PINE GROSBEAK was reported in Gatineau Park on the 
2nd and BOHEMIAN WAXWING (2) were found at the IPBO on the 1st. There were GRAY 
PARTRIDGE (8) along Old Coach Rd east of Marathon and WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL 
were heard in the Qualicom neighborhood on the 6th
