Winds came from the SE in the morning, S and SW in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: There was good variety (Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Cooper's Hawks, Red-tailed Hawk, Golden Eagle) even though there were only 9 raptors today. A peregrine flew from West to East in the morning holding unidentified breakfast in its talons; it looked in a hurry to find a perch to eat from. A Golden Eagle was the last bird of the day. It landed at the west side of the marsh in a tree next to two of the resident juvenile Bald Eagles and upon a quick scan of that treeline, 8 eagles (7 Balds, 1 Golden) were perched in view at the same time! Non-raptor Observations: Passerines were flying between bouts of drizzle. A group of 25 Pine Siskins got very excited about an alder tree as they flew by so they made a quick turn and landed in it in quite the frenzy. A late surprise was a Mourning Warbler feeding in the bushes around the tower! See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20461393 Predictions: A cool day with temperatures only up to 6C. Finally we are expecting some north component winds and some birds with them! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
