Late notice I'm afraid but yesterday afternoon (about 13:30) I saw an adult, non-breeding Great Cormorant fly very close past the tip of Bear Point, Wolfe Island. Bear Point is the most southerly extension of the island and is in Big Sandy Bay Conservation Area. The bird was flying with purpose west into the lake along the shore line and could be worth looking out for.
Although probably irrelevant, Big Sandy Bay can be reached by following Hwy 95 south from the ferry terminal and taking Reed's Bay Road west and all the way to the end. A 4km walk through the woods, east along the beach and out to the point is then required. Wolfe Island is reached by a free ferry from Kingston. Mark. Mark D.
