Weather: An absolutely gorgeous day to be out and about! A small breeze was blowing from the SSE and S, small amounts of clouds let the sun shine through, and the temperature went all the way up to 14C. More clouds started rolling in from the lake in the afternoon. Raptor Observations: Good days for people don't always equal good days for birds, but despite the distance of most raptors going along the north shore, we had a few highlights today. A juvenile Northern Harrier flew in good light not too far from the tower and a Golden Eagle on the far shore flew slowly enough that myself, Jim, and one of our visitors had the chance to get a good look at it through the scope. Just over 30 Turkey Vultures moved through, along with Red-tailed, Sharp-shinned and Cooper's Hawks. Non-raptor Observations: Goldfinches, Cedar Waxwings, and gulls flew in the morning with American Crows starting in the afternoon. A Monarch butterfly was a big surprise! See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20519036 Predictions: Much cooler than today, hovering just above 0C, with winds from the west all day at 25km/h. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
