Thanks to Greg, Larry and Jim for keeping the cold hours at bay with good company! Weather: Temperatures hovered around 2C all day with 4-14km/h winds from the west, with gusts up to 25km/h. Raptor Observations: A mildly infrequent, but steady, stream of raptors flew through today, most coming fairly close to the tower. 7 nice Northern Harriers were seen, appearing carefree and strong in flight as usual. 21 of both Red-tailed Hawks and Turkey Vultures migrated, along with 2 juvenile Bald Eagles, 2 Sharp-shinned and 1 Cooper's Hawk. A day well worth the temperature. Non-raptor Observations: The morning didn't bring many large flocks and there were no American Crows today, but American Goldfinches were bouncing within a foot of our faces all day long, reaching 239! Tundra Swans were flying in abundance, 194 passing over the marsh by the end of the day. A wonderful treat just before packing up was 2 Snow Geese that had joined a group of Tundra Swans! See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S20528806 Predictions: Winds will be from the west all day. Starting at -1C and going to just above freezing, it'll be a cool one tomorrow. Chance of flurries so come on up to the tower if you want to have an early season snowball fight with really small snowballs! Don't forget to wear your warm clothes! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
