Visitors:
Today`s count thanks to observers Tom B., Jim, Mary, Keith, Don, Chris and
a couple of other visitors.
Weather:
Clear skies over the cliff area, clouds to the north and south until 1:00
pm when we had 100% cloud cover. Winds were WNW to W. Temp got to a high of
just 3C.
Raptor Observations:
Not a bad flight today with a total of 105 birds. Highlights for the day
included 6 more Golden Eagles and 4 more Roughlegs. Also spotted today were
N. Harriers (2), Sharpies (6), Bald Eagles (5), Cooper's Hawks (2),
Redtails (71) and Red-shoulders (3) and lastly 6 TVs were also counted.
Non-raptor Observations:
There was less activity this morning in the bushes along Hawk Cliff Rd but
we did manage to find a few species including Americn Goldfinch, American
Robin, Downy and Hairy Woodpecker plus Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, as well as
Song and White-throated Sparrows, Brown-headed Cowbird, Black-capped
Chickadees, Hermit Thrush, Ruby- and Golden-crowned Kinglets, Pine Siskins,
Northern Cardinals and Blue Jays. Flocks flying over were American Crows
(100 +), Swans (very few today!), Horned Larks, Eastern Bluebirds, Eurpean
Starlings (way too many to count!), and the usual parade of Ring-billed
Gulls.
Predictions:
More sunshine for Saturday but with W winds which hold back the flight a
bit. Still...if there are birds out there they'll likely attempt to move to
escape the heavier snow in many areas of Ontario.
