Temperatures hovered around freezing for much of the day. The wind was moderate and out of the southwest. Raptor Observations: Today only added to our recent run of strong mid-November movement. The morning began with a bang: our first bird was an adult Northern Goshawk(!) and in the first two hours, we added four more Golden Eagles. Then, during the midday hours, a consistent trickle of Red-tailed and Red-shouldered hawks grabbed our attention and kept us engaged. The flight petered out late, though, ending with a whimper over the last few hours. But all in all, it was another high-quality November outing. Non-raptor Observations: Sandhill Crane (8), Tundra Swan (75+), Common Loon (1), Horned Grebe (15+), Bonaparte's Gull (45+), Common Merganser (8), Redhead (5), scaup sp. (400+), American Pipit (4), Rusty Blackbird (65+), Pine Siskin (12) Predictions: Mostly cloudy with cold temps, moderate southwest wind and a 50 percent chance of light snow. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
