Last Saturday, I reported a very cooperative bird at Rondeau’s Pony Barn as a
male Brewer’s Blackbird. Since then, several Southern Ontario experts have
studied my photos and video.

All have concluded that the bird is a male Rusty Blackbird. I’m grateful to
these excellent and unselfish birders who took their time to review the
documentation and provide thoughtful explanations for their decisions. All have
acknowledged that it can be a very tricky ID at this time of year (which makes
me feel a little bit better). Overall, it’s been a very positive learning
experience.
Cheers, Barry Coombs
