Yesterday, in the afternoon, we saw a Rough-legged Hawk (light morph immature) hovering almost completely motionless - low over a mown cornfield along highway 26 near Collingwood. The unmistakable dark carpal patch contrasting with the white under-wing and the long white tail feathers with a dark subterminal band were easily observed as the hawk hovered very close to us.
Further west, about 5 minutes later, we saw two more light morph immature Rough-legeed hawks flying low over a cornfield on the North side of the road. Directions from the south Take Highway 400 North to Barrie. Take Bayfield Street (Highway 26/27) and exit #98 towards Stayner/Wasaga Beach. Turn left onto Bayfield Street and follow until Highway 26 West turn-off towards Stayner and Collingwood. Turn right in Stayner and follow Highway 26 into Collingwood.
