The location of the birds at the top of this week's list once again is from the same place three years running now. Sedgewick Park in Oakville is ideal for attracting warblers that missed the migration boat this time of year. Over the past few years a total of nine species of warbler have been seen at this location. This year, TENNESSEE, ORANGE-CROWNED, NASHVILLE, WILSON'S WARBLER and NORTHERN PARULA are the highlights there. The sixth species of warbler there is Yellow-rumped, a little more common than the above. Other highlights include Brown Creeper, Winter Wren, Golden-crowned and RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, Hermit Thrush, White-crowned Sparrow and Red-winged Blackbird. Another ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER is present in the goldenrod at the Suncor Pier in Oakville just east of here. PLEASE NOTE the Jehovah's Witness has given permission for birders to park on their property which is located on the east side of the park just east of the sewage treatment plant and Coronation Park on Lakeshore road however please DO NOT, under any circumstances, use the parking lot on Sunday at any time. Please respect their wishes as they are kind enough to allow parking at other times in the week for easy access to the park. They could change their minds and start towing vehicles if rules are not obeyed. On Sundays access can be gained through the entrance to the park located at the end of Hixon Road east of Third Line. Geese seem to be a theme this week as well, if you can find them. The two Greater White-fronted Geese seen last weekend at LaSalle Marina showed up on the lawn at Bayfront Park on Wednesday. Along with them a Cackling Goose which remained there until today. A Brant has been seen in several locations along the Oakville Burlington lakeshore (Coronation Park, Bronte Harbour, Burloak Park, Shoreacres/Paletta) with the location last couple of days being Coronation Park. There may be more than one roaming around. A Snow Goose has been seen somewhat consistently at the Satellite Golf Course at Centennial and Mud street up on the mountain in Hamilton but the bird does fly in and out of there with the group of Canada's and can be missed easily. In the odds and sods this week, four Tundra Swans were present on the east side of LaSalle Park last weekend. A Barrows x Common Goldeneye Hybrid was found yesterday off Confederation Park. Red-throated Loon, Common Loon and Horned Grebe have all been seen on the Hamilton Bay from Bayfront Park and Canada Centre for Inland Waters. A Rough-legged Hawk was seen at Rock Chapel in Flamborough. A Killdeer was present on the shores of the pond at Confederation park today. A highlight for this birder last weekend was a PURPLE SANDPIPER found on the west side of the Suncor Pier last Sunday offering excellent photo opportunities. At dusk down at Bayfront Park, Bonaparte's, Lesser Black-backed and Great Black-backed Gull were seen. At Bronte Harbour both Iceland and Glaucous Gulls have been seen on the shoal down at Bronte Beach. Snowy Owls were reported from Tollgate Pond, Confederation Park and the Suncor Pier in Oakville this week. The Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is still lurking about at the woodlot behind Olympic Arena. A group of about 100 Snow Buntings were seen across the road from the Satellite Golf Course today. Finally keep your feeders stocked as Pine Siskins are still moving through the area with one being seen at Rock Chapel in the week. That's the news for the week. Please send along your sightings, anything can happen this time of year. Happy Winter Listing Cheryl Edgecombe HNC --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
