The painted bunting was present this morning at 11:30 at 33 Arkendo dr. It was observed by myself and Carl-Adam Wegenschimmel coming to the feeder, perching in the hedge behind the feeder, in the magnolia, and singing and calling. We watched it for about 20 minutes and it was still there being heard when we left. Many chickadees, nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, juncos, and at least 10 cardinals were in the area as well.
Over at Sedgewick park, at least 4 species of warblers were still there. Excellent looks at the male wilson's, yellow-rumped and Tennessee, which was coming to the fence. The orange-crowned showed briefly, and I got a brief glimpse of what was most likely the nashville. Another brief glimpse at what could have been the parula. I will need to go back to confirm the latter two as well as what I believe was a female wilson's associating with the male. Other birds present were golden and ruby-crowned kinglets, brown creeper, and chickadees. The lake was full of waterfowl. I didn't spend nearly long enough on them, but at the base of Chartwell rd. I identified bufflehead and common goldeneye which were both present in large numbers. At Lakeside Park there were many ring-billed gulls and a few herrings on the pier but they got chased off by a bold mink. Many ducks were on the water to the east of the pier that I did not ID. Arkendo dr. is the first street west of Winston Churchill going south from Lakeshore rd in Oakville. Chartwell rd. is a few blocks west and Lakeside Park is at the mouth of the 16-mile creek. Sedgewick Park is North of Lakeshore rd. in between 3rd and 4th line. Access it by turning North on Sandwell and West on Sedgewick and parking at the school.
