Thousands of birders, photographers and families visit Aylmer WMA every
March to see the 1000s of Tundra Swans that stopover to rest and feed
for a few weeks.
We checked today to see what was happening. All of the ponds are still
frozen except for one small patch. There were 25 pairs of geese, 2 swans
and 2 Mallards waiting for the ice to melt.
While we were there a flock of 50 Tundra Swans flew over, circled a
couple of times, but continued NW, likely towards Greenway outside
Pinery PP.
In most years, the Elgin Stewardship Council normally starts feeding by
now and I'm guessing they will do so on Monday given that it's March
break and many families come during that week to see the swans.
We live close by so will check regularly and make another post once the
feeding program starts and swans start congregating at Aylmer.
