They are here in big numbers
Yesterday I surveyed from Vankleek Hill to Lancaster eastward into Quebec in
the Valleyfield/Beauharnois area.
Highlights 278,000 Greater Snow Geese of which 158,000 were within Ontario.Only
a few Snow Geese were west/nw of Lancaster. Areas  Around Green valley, North
Lancaster, and Bainsville had most of the inland flocks. At Westley's point 5km
east of Lancaster(accessed off south service road from Lancaster(beside
mcdonalds) 65,000 birds loafing on river.Bainsville marsh 5km east of
Whestley's point 34,000 Snow Geese
In Quebec, areas south of Valleyfield  held most of the flocks (Hungry Bay,
Beauharnois Canal, Sainte Barbe and Sainte Stanislas-de-kotska  area ).
Other highlights1000s of Canada Geese scattered throughout.2 Golden and 5 Bald
Eagles. Watched one Golden attack a field of 12000 Snow Geese. Never seen so
many geese fly so fast. Only 3 Cackling Geese today No other species noticed
and I looked carefully through alot of geese.
DirectionsTake 401 east to Lancaster then roam around the eastern most 15 kms
of Ontario. You can drive around for 10mins and see no geese then turn a corner
and have a field with 1000s.
The St lawrence River is starting to break up and the geese roost/loaf on the
open leads or further out on the icepack.
Cheers,
 Tyler Hoar
