I am very lucky to live in rural Norfolk County where in the past six years we have observed over 56 species of birds without leaving my property.

Here are this mornings observations from my living room as I drank my morning coffee.

A pair of Blue Birds are actively nest building in one of my nest boxes.

A large Wild Turkey Gobbler was strutting his stuff in the back field.

Gold Finches ‎are transitioning to their summer plumage.

Lots of male Red Wing Blackbirds showing off for the ladies. Haven't seen any ladies though.‎ They also chased a Common Crow off of the property.

Robins are dog fighting all over the yard.

Tree swallows are eyeing another of the best boxes.

A pair of Downey Woodpeckers are bug hunting on the Black Walnut trees.

A female Red Belied Woodpecker was also working the Walnuts. The male is often here as well.

Northern Flicker came in briefly this morning.

Starlings are working on two tree cavities.

Small flocks of Canada's have been going over.

Mallards and wood ducks have been going into and out of the creek.

Brown Headed cow birds have been feeding in the lawn.

The male Blue Bird just put the chase on a male House Sparrow. I'll be setting up the sparrow trap today.‎ The only bird I truly dislike. They have ruined Blue Bird nesting for the last three years. Last year they prevented a Barn Swallow pair from nesting on my front porch.

There is an Eastern Phoebe chasing flies around the house.

That's it for today.

I live 2.5 west of Townsend on the Stone Quarry Road in Norfolk County.
