Hello Ontbirders

Record numbers of Bohemian Waxwings continue to be seen in the Ottawa area.
Yesterday, April 16, I observed a flock of 500+ feeding on Buckthorn berries at
Britannia Conservation Area along Cassels Road. Today there were still 200+
feeding and flying down to drink water from a puddle. Had another flock of 50+
Bohemian Waxwing at the corner of Moodie Drive and Carling Ave. With the
breakup of ice on Lake Deschenes (late) the last Snowy Owl was seen today off
Dick Bell Park. Since my last posting on April 12 the numbers dropped with 7 on
April 13, 4 on April 14, zero on April 15 and 16. A Northern Shrike was present
along Rifle Road near Carling Ave. At Shirley’s Bay just west of the parking
lot three Ruddy Ducks were in a flock of Common Goldeneye. At Deschenes Rapids
there was lots of activity on Conroy Island with 28 adult Black-crowned
Night-Herons back at the nesting site along with 4 Great Egrets that were
present on April 16 and today.

Good birding,

Bruce
