It's a great day to be out hiking today with sunny clear skies and warm light southwest winds at Point Pelee. Although there are less-than-normal numbers of birds in the Park this morning, there are some great birds and some colourful new arrivals.
The highlight of the morning thus far is a Prairie Warbler at the road near the entrance of Northwest Beach parking lot. Quite a few Baltimore Orioles and Yellow Warblers must have arrived last night and have been flying around The Tip and Woodland Trail areas. A number of Common Loons have been seen flying past The Tip. Many Horned Grebes are in the water around the point, and an Eared Grebe has been seen distantly from the West Beach parking lot. An Eastern Whip-poor-will has been spotted perched on a tree along Shuster Trail. Other fairly new migrants include Pine Siskin, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, and Black-and-white Warbler. There have not been any reports today of yesterday's Kentucky Warbler - let's keep our fingers crossed that it's re-found! Elsewhere in the Pelee Birding Area, an American Avocet was seen at Hillman Marsh mid-morning.
