What a great day at the Park. A number of birds from yesterday remained to thrill, including the Cerulean and the Prairie Warblers that were in the north end of Tilden Woods. But there was a large "fall-out" as well and the Park is full of birds. No rain fell but yet many of the birds were feeding low and afforded great looks. Prior to 8 am birds were everywhere from Tilden Woods south to the Tip but after that numbers diminished as the birds seemed to move northward in the Park.
At the Tip, a few Black Tern were noted in with the Common Terns. A Marsh Wren was found on the rocks on the west side. There were a number of Pine Siskin there as well. Many common warblers were seen as well as sparrow species but also including many Lincoln's Sparrow. Bobolink were noted. A Summer Tanager was also reported. Several White-eyed Vireo were noted, one near the Tram Stop at the Tip, and two in Tilden Woods being the most recently reported. At the wet spot along Shuster Trail a number of Northern Waterthrush were seen and heard, a Yellow-throated Vireo was present and a Solitary Sandpiper was foraging. The warblers of Tilden Woods were impressive. There were at least 3 Golden-winged Warblers and 2 Blue-winged Warblers, Northern Parula, Northern Waterthrush, Cape May, Hooded, Mourning, Prothonotary, Prairie and Cerulean. Several Yellow-throated Vireo have also been noted. Many other migrants were seen by all. So far 27 species of warbler have been reported. Sparrows were scattered throughout and included a Clay-colored at West Beach Parking lot and many Lincoln's Sparrow. There was an American Avocet still being reported at the Hillman's Marsh Shorebird cell.
