Yellow-throated Warbler possible Malcomson Woods.
Please note that this is a suggestion as to where you might see the
bird. The area it was observed in this morning is not open to the public.
At about 0900 hours this morning Luc Fazio and Dan Salisbury and I
observed a singing Yellow-throated Warbler on the Port Weller west pier
north of the Coast Guard Station. This area is not open to the public
but we were there to do a special count. It is our experience, however,
that birds that first show up on the West Pier will often end up in
Malcomson Woods. These woods are one of the better places in Niagara to
observe migrants.
Malcomson Woods can be reached by exiting the QEW at Niagara Street and
driving north to the end of Niagara Street at Lakeshore Road. Turn right
on Lakeshore and then left on
Welland Canal Parkway just before the bridge across the canal. The wood
is on your left and runs parallel to the canal. The parkway turns left
at the wood end and parking there you can access the wood. The wood can
also be entered from a small parking lot just after turning left on the
parkway.
