Today is the last day for the guided bird hikes presented by the Friends of Point Pelee at Point Pelee National Park. It is not, however, the end of bird migration which will continue throughout the month and into early June.
There was another active reverse migration at the Tip this morning with many Indigo Bunting, Orioles, several species of Warbler, and a female Blue Grosbeak. A Canada Warbler was reported from near the washroom building. Yellow-billed Cuckoo and Green Heron were also seen at the Tip. Both Black-billed and Yellow-billed Cuckoos have been reported from various locations on the Woodland Trail. A Worm-eating Warbler was reported at 8:00 a.m. at the corner of the Woodland and Botham Trails. Birders should scan any clump of dead oak leaves on the Eastern Red Cedar trees in hopes of seeing it. Several Green Heron were heard and seen in the Cedar trees on the west and north sides of the Visitor Centre. While the Tilden Trail has been quite active all Spring it is settling down into mostly breeding birds with only a few of the common migrant warbler species. Outside of the Park the two American Avocet are still being seen at the Hillman Marsh Shorebird Cell.
