Hello everyone,

The OFO Celebrity Birders team of seven young birders tallied 145 species
in 24 hours (to the minute) at Presqu'ile Park and nearby hotspots. A very
impressive total! Our rule was that at least 4 out of the 7 birders needed
to see or hear the bird so we missed a couple but most people got each bird.

Highlights included the amazing shorebird spectacle at Owen Point this
morning, a Barred Owl, 20 warbler species in the park this morning,
including a Mourning Warbler singing high up and in clear view, Blue-winged
Warblers and the first ever Sandhill Cranes seen at the Wilkinson Tract.

Many thanks go to Bill Gilmour, Ian Shanahan, Doug McRae, Leslie Abrams
and Tiny Lee who helped us in so many ways. It would not have been possible
to find so many great birds without them. Thanks also to Jeff Harrison who
had the idea in the first place. And last, but not least, the awesome
parents of the young birders who provide support, transportation and food!

It's not too late to donate. Proceeds go to Bird Studies Canada and the OFO
Young Birders Program. You can donate at the Great Canadian Birdathon
website (search for OFO Young Birders or myself) or send cheques payable to
Great Canadian Birdathon to Jeff Harrison, 706-39 Old Mill Road, Etobicoke,
Ontario M8X 1G6.

Many other birders are also doing their birdathons to raise money for Bird
Studies Canada and other worthy bird-related organizations, so please
consider giving.

A full write-up will be posted on the OFO website and the OFO Facebook page
later. Our checklists have been recorded in eBird.
