Reports of rare and unexpected species, June 11 through June 18, from the Niagara Frontier Region. On Lake Ontario, June 14, four AMER. WHITE PELICANS feeding off Ransomville Road, in the Niagara County Town of Porter. The count of four pelicans matches only one previous high count in the BOS archives. Also at Lake Ontario in Niagara County, June 13, a BLACK- BELLIED WHISTLING DUCK still at the mouth of 12 Mile Creek, at the west side of Wilson-Tuscarora State Park. Nearby, in the Village of Wilson, EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE continues in the harbor area, often at the Boathouse Restaurant. June 11, an unexpected BRANT on the east branch of the Niagara River at Gratwick Park in North Tonawanda. The BRANT appeared healthy, and was feeding with resident MALLARDS. Rare in June, a PINE SISKIN this week at a feeder in the Orleans County Village of Medina. Other reports this week - From the night sky over the Central Park neighborhood in Buffalo - two, late migrant SWAINSON'S THRUSHES heard after midnight. Scarce COMMON NIGHTHAWKS - two over Central Park and one over East Amherst. And at Sunset Beach, on Lake Ontario at Johnson Creek, flocks of CEDAR WAXWINGS feeding on over-abundant mosquitoes.
