Highlights of reports received June 18 through June 25 from the Niagara Frontier Region. As of June 16, two EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVES at the Wilson Harbor Boathouse Restaurant, on Lake Ontario in Niagara County. Additional report of summer PINE SISKINS - 5 at a feeder next to the Boathouse Restaurant parking lot. PINE SISKINS were not recorded in Niagara or Orleans County during the 2000 - 2005 New York State Breeding Bird Atlas period. The BLACK-BELLIED WHISTLING-DUCK on 12 Mile Creek at the west side of Wilson-Tuscarora State Park in Niagara County has been reported sporadically - most recent confirmed report was June 18. Listed as threatened in New York State, a LEAST BITTERN, June 22, in Chautauqua County, at the Berry Road marsh in the Town of Pomfret. MARSH WRENS also at this location. On Saturday, June 27 at 7:30 PM, there will be a BOS field trip to Beaver Island State Park at the south end of Grand Island, in memory of the late Bill Watson. The evening trip will will focus on the GREAT EGRETS returning to the nesting colony Bill studied, on nearby Motor Island. Meet in the large parking lot at the park casino building. Visitors are always welcome on BOS trips. The Bird Report will be updated in two weeks, Thursday evening, July 9. Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may report sightings after the tone.
