We have received a photo of a bird found this morning by someone who was
kayaking around Upper Duck Island on the Ottawa River in the east end of
Ottawa. The photo is very good, the bird is very likely a Couch's or Tropical
Kingbird, however we are being cautious about the identification and are
currently trying to determine if more pictures are available.
The picture shows a perched Kingbird, yellow underbody almost to the throat, a
large bill and somewhat forked tail. The photo does not show the back of the
bird.
Upper Duck Island can only be reached by boat but can be viewed from both
Ontario (Rockcliffe Parkway) and Quebec (Boul. Hurtubise) sides of the river.
