Hi Everyone As you all know the Little Egret decided to change its morning routine and wasn’t present at Andrew Haydon Park this morning. A number of us checked other locations including Britannia Point/Pinecrest Creek, the Ottawa River shoreline from Britannia to Shirley’s Bay, Moodie Drive Ponds, Bruce Pit, Carp River and some of the wetland areas along Moodie Drive near Hunt Club Road. It obviously has found a location that isn’t on a birder’s regular route.
I’d recommend that if anyone is coming up or still searching for the Little Egret, check for it late afternoon as its comes in to Conroy Island at Deschenes Rapids. I has been reported going to roost as early as 6:00pm so I’d arrive at Britannia Point or Britannia Pier by 5:00pm. Also, I’ve had two unconfirmed reports of the Little Egret seen at Andrew Haydon Park along the shoreline late afternoon. You can view the lower rapids from Britannia Point at the end of Cassels Road or the upper rapids from Britannia Pier which is located off Carling Ave at the end of Greenview Road. Both locations give you a view of Conroy Island. I’ll be back at Andrew Haydon Park tomorrow at 5:00a.m. If you have any questions please email me privately. Good luck, Bruce Bruce Di Labio P.O.
