The Eared Grebe was at the far end in the East cell. It can be easily seen from the tower with a good scope.
There are also a good variety of waterfowl (20 species or so) including resident breeders such as Ruddy Duck and Redhead, and early fall arrivals such as Bufflehead, Ring-necked Duck, Lesser Scaup, Common Goldeneye and Hooded Merganser. This morning I saw a Stilt Sandpiper, Red-necked Phalarope (2) and a Ruddy Turnstone among the more common shorebirds. In the past few days I observed at these lagoons 15 species of shorebirds including a Short-billed Dowitcher and an American Golden-Plover. A photo of today's Eared Grebe can be seen at this link: http://jacquesbouvier.blogspot.ca/ DIRECTIONS: >From Alfred go east (short distance) on Hwy 17 then turn south on Peat Moss road; the lagoons are about 2km south on the east side of the road. From the parking lot walk eastward to the observation platform. Good birding!
