Weather:
A cloudless sky allowed the dogged sun to have its way with us today. After
a cool start to the morning, temperatures rose quickly. The wind was
moderate and out of the southwest.
Raptor Observations:
Sharpies and harriers were moving in the morning but our flight dried up as
the day progressed, slowing to a trickle by shut down time. Our only
afternoon highlight was a three o'clock Merlin congenial enough to briefly
invade the count site. Harriers mesmerized once again today. It's early yet
but this season is shaping up to be a memorable one for Northern Harriers.
Non-raptor Observations:
American White Pelican (41), Northern Pintail (1), Wood Duck (1),
Red-winged Blackbird (330+), Chimney Swift (65+), Tree Swallow (150+),
Northern Rough-winged Swallow (60+), Barn Swallow (3), American Goldfinch
(40+), Ruby-throated Hummingbird (9), Black Saddlebags (6), Common Green
Darner (118), Monarch (56)
Predictions:
Mostly sunny with warm temps and light south wind.
