Alas, a tall ship carrying low sails never floated by to round out the scene. Raptor Observations: Engaged from the get-go, Sharp-shinned Hawks wasted no time plowing their way south. The first two hours featured a steady diet of high sharpies riding the northeast wind. The season's first Red-shouldered Hawks graced us with their presence as well. However, movement slowed to a crawl after noon, leaving us little but vultures to count the rest of the way. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jay (30000+), Chimney Swift (25+), Northern Rough-winged Swallow (15+), Tree Swallow (90+), Blue-winged Teal (3), Common Green Darner (1) Predictions: Similar to today: partly cloudy with mild temps and strong northeast wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
