Observers: Bob Pettit, Jeremy Bensette, Jim McCoy, John Winebrenner,
Michael Williamson
Visitors:
A grade 4 class of 30 students visited the tower with ERCA, and got to see
a Sharp-shinned Hawk specimen and learn a bit about raptor migration.
Weather:
Winds were high again today, and from the N and NE. Temperatures started
out at 9C and rose to 14C with the sun that peeked through the layers of
cloud. Visibility was good all day.
Raptor Observations:
The flight today was dominated by over 3300 Turkey Vultures that lost no
time in rocketing past the tower. Sharp-shinned Hawks were the second
biggest players of the day, with American Kestrels being less numerous than
yesterday. Northern Harriers really put on a good show with 45, appearing
all throughout the day, and most flying low over the marsh. Red-shouldered
Hawks popped up sporadically through the day, and a Peregrine provided some
entertainment while harassing the ducks and cormorants in the marsh.
Another great 12 species day.
Non-raptor Observations:
The Blue Jay clicker went through a few people today (thanks to everyone!)
and we totalled 22,200 for the day. At times there were mostly Tree
Swallows mixed in with the other birds flying, along with Cedar Waxwings,
Red-winged Blackbirds, American Goldfinches and a few Chimney Swifts. A
Red-bellied Woodpecker and Yellow-bellied Sapsucker both were seen on
migration as well today. 1 Monarch. See today's eBird list

Predictions:
Weather basically the same as it was today, so we can expect a flight also
much the same.
