Warmer, temperatures reached the 60s for the first time since September. A gusting northeast wind continued to batter us, though not as heavily as recent outings. Raptor Observations: Struggling to find consistency, our raptor flight was sporadic outside an afternoon push of buteos. Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks suddenly appeared, rushing through for a brief time, but neither species sustained their short flicker of friskiness. Non-raptor Observations: Blue Jay (2600+), Tree Swallow (300+), Chimney Swift (118), Yellow-rumped Warbler (40+), Ruby-crowned Kinglet (22), Golden-crowned Kinglet (8), Northern Parula (2), Black-throated Green Warbler (1), Black-throated Blue Warbler (1), Blackpoll Warbler (1), Palm Warbler (1), Blue-headed Vireo (1), Hermit Thrush (1), Dark-eyed Junco (2), House Finch (6), Black-crowned Night Heron (1), Forster's Tern (20+) Predictions: Mostly sunny with warm temps and light and variable wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
