Today Viktor Nilsson joined Margaret Liubavicius and I on Hanlan’s Point and we were sure glad he did.
Viktor found 2 Nelson’s Sparrows for us and then Margaret found a 3rd Nelson’s Sparrow for the two of us. Good finds Viktor and Margaret, good to have someone doing all the work :>)). The Nelson’s Sparrow along with a Fox Sparrow found by Viktor brings the sparrow total for this fall to 16 species with hopes for at least 2 more species before migration ends. Directions: The Toronto Islands docks are at the very south end of Bay Street across Queens Quay. Note:- Monday is the last ferry service to both Hanlan’s Point and Centre Island until next April, bummer as the next 2 weeks are good sparrow migration days (Fox, Nelson’s, etc.) and that is also when blackbirds, robins bluebirds, finches and waxwing flocks move through, but you can always walk or bike the 5 km to and from Ward’s Island. Norm Murr Richmond Hill Ontario, Canada You can't see birds if you don't go out but sit and wait for others to find them. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
