I visited Leslie Street Spit / Tommy Thompson Park this afternoon with
Nick Escott. We found a lone BRANT in one of the small bays near the
outer end of the east side; it flew north along the spit, probably into
another small bay. Other birds of note: 1 BLUE-HEADED VIREO, 1 TENNESSEE
WARBLER and 2 PALM WARBLER among very large numbers of YELLOW-RUMPED
WARBLER, large numbers of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET in the goldenrod (!)
and quite a few RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET too, upwards of a dozen EASTERN
PHOEBE, at least 1 FOX SPARROW, several mixed sparrow flocks with
WHITE-CROWNED and WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS and an early AMERICAN TREE
SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCOS, numerous HERMIT THRUSHES also in the
goldenrod, distant flocks of LONG-TAILED DUCK and the odd SURF SCOTER
and several RED-NECKED GREBE.
