Today around 5:45 pm I had a small flock of shorebirds comprised of 4
White-rumped and one Purple Sandpiper circle and attempted to landing at
the end of rock jetty just west of the Saddington Park on the waterfront
trail. I was at the end of jetty when they flew in within 8 meters and the
strong wave action kept them from landing, They circled once and continued
into south-southwest direction. The white-rumps because of long pointed
wings and large white rumps were easy to ID; the Purple Sandpiper exhibited
a slightly larger and chunkier size, dark grey back and rump and upper
wings except for strong contrasting white at the bases of the primaries and
secondaries and thick down-turned bill.

Directions: at the south end of Mississauga Road off the QEW to the parking
lot. The pier is only a one minute walk to the shoreline then a quick jog
to right heading east at the fence line.
