Weather: The temperature itself was mild, hovering around 10C, but with the 35kph winds gusting to over 55kph it didn't feel so warm. The wind came from the S and SW, making for a shaky tower and taking down branches and even trees in the park. With the wind speed only increasing, the count was cut quite short. The sky was full of clouds that were moving off the lake at a rate befitting the opening credits of a Star Wars film. Raptor Observations: No raptors migrated but that Osprey was attempting to hunt in the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: It's always interesting seeing what will happen on days with more extreme weather than the norm. In the case of this morning, not much. A few foolhardy ducks were riding the small whitecaps in the marsh, but most had taken cover in vegetation and couldn't be seen. 4 Rusty Blackbirds dove for cover, and a chickadee and a Golden-crowned Kinglet were heard around the tower. Other than that, only gulls were in the air and a Mute Swan that attempted to fly to the west, but instead ended up landing behind where it started. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S25805005 Predictions: Another day of strong winds, though from the west tomorrow. A chance of rain the morning as well ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
