Hi Everyone, At 10:50 this morning, I found and photographed a cave swallow in the harbour at Erieau. I first saw it flying around near the end of one of the cement docks, then watched it land on the lower railing at the end of that dock. I walked out and got photos from 6 feet (photos on Ebird soon). I backed away and continued to watch the bird and was joined by Bob Miller and his wife. It landed on a nearby tug, circled a bit and then we lost it as it flew out into the channel, at which time I left (11:20). Jim Burk saw 3 cave swallows fly over the farm about 5 km west of there this morning, as well. There are probably a few around this area.
Directions: Erieau is in Chatham-Kent at the southeast end of County Rd 12 (Erieau Rd). When in town, turn left at the first stop sign. Take a quick right onto Vidler Ave and follow it to the end where it meets up with Kerr Ave. Turn right. The harbour area is behind Barnier's Boats and the liquor store at the end of Kerr Ave. The entire village is worth searching, from the harbour at the north end to the pier to the south. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
