Temperatures remained frosty, briefly touching the mid 30s but going no higher. The wind was moderate and out of the south. Raptor Observations: Pleasing looks at a close Golden Eagle and a close Northern Harrier salvaged an otherwise sedate outing. A handful of Red-tailed Hawks and two young and wandering Bald Eagles were the only others willing to brave such bitter conditions. Non-raptor Observations: Dunlin (60+), Great Black-backed Gull (1), Tundra Swan (85+), Canada Goose (220+), Redhead (55+), Bufflehead (8), Common Goldeneye (1), Ruddy Duck (7), Gadwall (2), Red-breasted Merganser (40+), Pied-billed Grebe (1), Cedar Waxwing (7), American Robin (80+) Predictions: Partly cloudy with chilly temps and light west wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
