I wish I was reporting a happier observation, but nonetheless, this is still very interesting--my colleague, Phil Anderson, found a dead loon only about 200m. down the road from the office I work out of. I went to check it out and was pretty surprised to see a basic plumaged Red-throated Loon. It would make sense that the bird hit the large powerlines directly over the road, or possibly tried to land on the road, thinking it was water.
The species is very rare in Waterloo Region, being the 5th record for the Region. The nearest address is 245 Labrador Drive, Waterloo, for those interested. Very close to where the Snowy Egret was present in fall 2014.
