The sun finally broke through around 1:30pm after another dreary morning. Wind has returned to the south and was blowing at around 8kph. Temperatures were really soaring and made it up to 7C. Raptor Observations: A Red-tail in the first hour started the day off hopefully, but no others showed up for hours. Then, right at the very end of the count, a beautiful adult Red-tail also passed over, making for a nice end of the day. Non-raptor Observations: At a few points in the day the passerines around the tower became very active. Once, 6 Brown Creepers and a Golden-crowned Kinglet all of a sudden appeared and minutes later 9 American Tree Sparrows started feeding on the little road. One American Crow moved to the east, 2 Red-winged Blackbirds and 2 American Goldfinches moved to the west. A cormorant is still hanging around, often with its wings spread, trying to catch some sun. 11 species of ducks, including a Canvasback, were in the marsh. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S26189425 Predictions: A cloudy day with 20kph winds coming from the south. Temperatures up to 7C. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
