Weather: You'd think it was the middle of October from the weather today. Sunny and almost 10C let us shed our gloves and keep our coats open. The wind started out a little strong but decreased to around 8kph from the S and then the SW. Raptor Observations: An increase from our last days, with 9 raptors migrating! Three Cooper's Hawks, two of which came right by the tower were a nice species to see again close up. 5 Red-tails were pleasant to see along the north side of the marsh. A few others also popped up and stuck around, sitting in trees around the marsh. Non-raptor Observations: 8 cowbirds, 3 American Goldfinches, 2 Cedar Waxwings, and 16 Horned Larks made it past the tower. The usual ducks that have been here lately are still present and providing entertainment in the marsh. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S26243195 Predictions: The last day of our count season ended much like the first one started; much warmer than usual and with good company. Many thanks to all who supported the season either monetarily, through visits to the tower, or just by thinking about us from home. Have a nice winter everyone, and good birding! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott ([email protected]) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
