Highlights of reports received December 10 through December
17 from the Niagara Frontier Region include BALTIMORE
  ORIOLE, SNOWY OWL and GULLS.

December 16, in a yard in the Erie County Village of Orchard
Park, a male BALTIMORE ORIOLE, feeding on wild grapes and at
  a seed feeder.

Despite the absence of snow, to date, SNOWY OWLS are in the
region - one at the Canadaway Creek Sanctuary on Route 5,
south of Dunkirk, and several reported in the area of the
  Buffalo Airport in Cheektowaga.

Ten species of gulls this week on the lower Niagara River
and at the falls. Highlighted by a lingering, juvenile
BLACK-LEG. KITTIWAKE in the falls gorge, and an adult
THAYER'S GULL at the barge above the falls. Other gulls at
the power plants, and above the falls - BONAPARTE'S GULL,
LITTLE GULL, RING-BILLED GULL, HERRING GULL, ICELAND GULL.
  L. BLACK-B. GULL, GLAUCOUS GULL and GREAT BLACK-B. GULL.

Up to three HARLEQUIN DUCKS above falls - adult and immature
males, plus a female, best observed from the outer Three
Sisters Islands off Goat Island in Niagara Falls, New York.
The ducks frequent a rock marked with small trees near the
barge. An immature male HARLEQUIN DUCK also continues on the
New York shore downriver of the power plants. And at least
one of the BL.-GR. GNATCATCHERS still at Dufferine Islands
  Park, in Ontario.

December 16, a new high count for BLACK VULTURES - at least
11 BLACK VULTURES among 40 TURKEY VULTURES roosting in the
Niagara County Village of Lewiston. The same date, three
BLACK VULTURES across the Niagara River in Ontario, over the
Queenston escarpment. A COMMON RAVEN also harassing TURKEY
  VULTURES above the escarpment.

Also reported this week - 13 WILD TURKEYS on the railroad
tracks behind the Cabela's store in Cheektowaga. Another 6
WILD TURKEYS and a SWAMP SPARROW at Woodlawn Beach Park in
Hamburg. And a GREAT HORNED OWL reported in the Town of
  Boston.

My sincere thanks and best holiday wishes to the Bird Report
contributors. The report will be updated after the holidays.
You may report sightings after the tone. And, thank you
  again for calling and reporting.
