The 35th annual Kleinburg Christmas Bird Count was held on Sunday December 20th with 31 participants enjoying cool but sunny weather. They observed 50 species and 12079 individuals during the day including two new species for the count - Snow Goose and Canvasback - bringing the total number of species to 117. The number of species is below the count average of 55 while the number of individuals is around the average. Notable misses included all of the owl species (Great Horned Owl - 31 previous counts), Great Blue Heron (25 counts), Snow Bunting (26 counts) and Horned Lark (24 counts). There was a record high number of Hooded Mergansers (24 - previous 16) but low numbers of Mourning Doves (192 - count average of 865).
