Viewed near Green Rd. in Stoney Creek on Lake Ontario. At ~8:30am this morning I had a suspect Great Cormorant giving difficult views as it flew in from the NE and eventually wandered NW, often facing into the wind and frequently changing direction. Around ~10:30am a rather bland-looking 2nd winter Great Cormorant flew east, closer to shore and offering better looks. A heads up that it is out there. Young Double-crested Cormorants have made near-daily appearances as well.
Around 8am - 1 juvenile Black-legged Kittiwake flew east. 1 Wood Duck, 2 Common Loons and ~1300 Greater Scaup (all in flight, going east) are some of the other highlights on intermittent watching. Happy Holidays Brandon Directions: multiple spots for watching waterbird movements in the area. Most popular is the Lakeland Centre on Van Wagners Beach Blvd just south of Beach Blvd which runs parallel to QEW Niagara. It is north of Hutchs Restaurant on the same site. Sayer's Park (Stoney Creek) or Fifty Point CA (Grimsby) are other options. Dress warm. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
