Hi Everyone, The vermilion flycatcher was NOT seen at all today (Saturday), despite many people looking for it. I was there with Jim Burk and others from about 9:45 until 11:15 and Larry says that people were looking throughout the day. Nights here have been a bit colder (-3 degree Celsius) and the light snow, constant wind and cloudiness have obviously led to a lack of suitable food. This is the first day since Larry discovered it on December 18th that it was not seen. Further to Stuart's post yesterday, the bird seemed to change its habits quite a bit. Yesterday, it tried to find food near the back of the barn and in its eaves. It flew higher in some of the trees and seemed to be flying around aimlessly at times. I'd like to think that it was preparing for its long trip south but..................... I spoke with Larry tonight and he will advise if it is seen again. I would like to once again congratulate Larry on this find and I can't thank his mother Georgette enough for allowing many of hundreds of people to wander through and around her yard in search of this bird. Also, thanks to all of you who visited. Georgette and Larry said that everyone was respectful, polite, friendly, patient and cooperative. It's nice to be able to let out an alert on an Ontario bird and not to worry about anything.
